Murray Motors Denver Colorado is a Rip-off
Ripoff story: I bought my first Land Rover last year at Murray Motors (303-759-3400) in Denver Colorado. Friends and family ALL told me that Land Rovers had the worst reputation and lived in the shop, but I loved the car and bought it anyway.Turns out they were right! it has cost me over $8,000 in repairs since I bought it and I am in for over $21,000 today. There were over a dozen days that my car spent in repair shops during the year I have owned it – which is a huge inconvenience considering it is an hour round trip to drop it off as well as pick it up a day or three later.
I finally learned why my car CAN’T BE FIXED : Land Rover has an OIL PUMP FAILURE DEFECT that is a manufacturer error detected by a LR technician on 3/14/2003 : Alert ta03 1201. It was OFFICIALLY ISSUED BY LR but NOT DIVULGED TO THE PUBLIC. The ONLY way to fix it is to BUY A NEW ENGINE!!!!
My car is in the vin group affected by this defect and most everyone is having problems, many have burned up their engines before realizing the problem. I caught it after owning the car for a few months and driving only 4,000 miles.
The car smelled like fire and it was 4 quarts low on oil!! So I fill the oil and check the gas every week now until I can get a lawyer to help me.
I spoke with LR North America (Linda D’Ambrosio 1-800-637-6837 #9 #1 then ext 2876) about this issue after learning that an attorney just got $10,000 for his client on this very issue. She turned me down for the most ridiculous reason, leading to further disclosure of scary practices between LR and their “authorized repair shops.” She offered me nothing and I told her I’ll be back with a lawyer soon.
Murray Motors’ general manager Larry Stanley offered me $2,000 to go away. He actually said, “Your engine problems happened AFTER you bought the car here!” I want them to buy the friggin car back from me for what I paid them! I certainly don’t want to sell it to anyone because I KNOW it is a disaster waiting to happen and I have integrity.
HELP PLEASE! These people don’t care about customer satisfaction at all. Just the next sale they can make.

We will try to touch base with Murray Motors Denver Colorado if you have any emails that you sent them please forward them to us it helps substantiate our claim.
Now it is not just between you and them, it is between you and them and the whole world and this will make all the difference…
We offer a 3 month, 3000 mile poweretrain warranty on all of our pre-owned cars. Ms. Roche signed an acknowledgment of this policy at delivery.
Not only did our technician inspect this vehicle for saftey and mechanical/electrical issues BEFORE we put it up for sale, but Ms. Roche paid the local Land Rover dealer to do an inspection as well. Both technicians found the vehicle to be in acceptable condition for sale.
Our warranty requires the customer to bring the vehicle to us for the repair of covered items. She did not. Furthermore, she did not come to me with any of these problems until one year AFTER taking delivery. I asked Ms. Roche to send me a copy of her bills and I have offered to pay for mechanical repairs that were done in the first 3 months or 3000 miles despite the fact that the work had been completed by another dealer and that many of these repairs fell outside of our normal powertrain warranty. I have also offered to trade her out of her current vehicle at its appraised value and give her a better than average deal on another vehicle.
We feel that we have been more than accomodating in this situation.
I have letters from BOTH shops that repaired the engine repeatedly and couldn’t fix it. One states that it was 4 quarts low ONLY 4,000 miles after my purchase. The other visit was 3 weeks later and my engine was another 2 quarts low.
I didn’t contact the dealership until I learned that I had bought a LR with 2 KNOWN defects affecting my car – and all of the others in my vin group. I never thought of bothering the dealership until I learned that MY engine couldn’t be fixed unless I bought a new engine for $8,000 – $10,000 which I am not willing to do.
I want this dealership to buy the car back for cash at a fair (NOT wholesale) price – considering I have $21,000 invested in it before learning the dreadful truth about this vehicle. I don’t feel comfortable trading for another possible nightmare lemon from Murray Motors.
His comment was, “Not only did our technician inspect this vehicle for saftey and mechanical/electrical issues BEFORE we put it up for sale, but Ms. Roche paid the local Land Rover dealer to do an inspection as well. Both technicians found the vehicle to be in acceptable condition for sale.”
This comment does not speak well of Land Rover’s authorized repair shop knowledge and awareness of LR defect issues since 2003. They have seen quite a few cars in this vin group and repaired them over and over again, charging suckers like me until someone honest let’s us know that there is no hope of repair for the oil engine defect.
Murray Motors managers can banter all they like, but if this happened to them or one of their family members, I imagine there would be a different stream of thought.
I don’t want to create a big problem here for myself or cause a bad reputation for Murray Motors, I just want my money back and to purchase something reliable elsewhere.
I will fax the 2 new letters to Murray Motors and LRNA today that clearly and unequivocably state that the oil consumption was first noticed at 4,000 miles after my purchase BECAUSE MY CAR SMELLED LIKE FIRE!!! I was one of the lucky ones who caught the problem just before my engine burned up entirely. It could have been much worse indeed!
This engine defect problem came WITH my purchase, and there is not a shred of question in my mind or in the minds of either repair shop I took it to.
